Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter estimated development cost for Grand Theft Auto V to have already cost Take-Two $80 million to develop.
With an expected 2012 release date for GTA V, it is safe to assume that the game development cost will match that of GTA IV’s $100 million price tag.
Video game analyst Michael Pachter estimated that Grand Theft Auto V will sell “at least 18 million units.”
The analyst also hinted that if GTA V can hold up to its predecessors that it might reach 24 million units.
“We expect the next Grand Theft Auto to sell at least 18 million units, representing a 20% attach rate to the estimated 2011 year-end installed base of PS3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. and Europe.”
“At this level, we estimate that Grand Theft Auto will generate at least $2.65/share in incremental EPS, making Take-Two’s forecast of ‘in excess’ of $2.00 per share in earnings during FY:13 easily attainable.
“Should the game sell 24 million units (in line with its historical attach rate), we expect contribution of more than $4.00 per share in incremental EPS. Importantly, the company has a history of providing conservative guidance, and without a GTA game in FY:13, we would not expect management to be so bold as to guide to earnings over $2.00.”
Take-Two Interactive reported their financial results today for the first quarter fiscal year 2012. Chief Executive Strauss Zelnick said the company has unannounced titles that we will hear about in the coming months. This further sparks rumors that Grand Theft Auto V will be announced in 2012.
Take-Two reported an expected net income of $2 per share in the fiscal year 2013. The last time the company achieved more than $2 per share was after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.
Information has potentially leaked concerning Grand Theft Auto V’s setting, codename, and characters. An online casting call posted by Take 2 Interactive hints towards GTA V, codenamed “Rush”.
