GTA 5 Online: What modes would you like to see?

Grand Theft Auto 4 offered a number of memorable online modes including GTA Race, Turf Wars, Bomb da Base and fan favorite, Cops ‘n’ Crooks. With that in mind the question on every online gamers lips is exactly what sort of online experience will the new game have to offer. Here is my wishlist:

  • Bring the GTA 4 modes back- Rockstar’s first foray into online co-op GTA gameplay was a big hit with fans and critics alike. All, or nearly all of the online modes were incredibly fun and I wouldn’t mind doing it all over again in Los Santos’ much larger playground. Here’s hoping they make a return appearance in GTA 5.

Cops ‘n’ Crooks in particular is a near perfect way to burn away hours of free time, laughing maniacally while chasing the boss or running from the cops. I say near perfect because the mode did have a few issues that kept it from being sheer perfection. If Rockstar can correct these few minor issues for their next release we’ll have a version of the frantic online chase game that fans won’t be able to tear themselves away from. First on the list being:

    • Randomized spawn points- Anyone who’s played Cops ‘n’ Crooks enough knows that eventually you start to figure out where almost every escape vehicle spawn point is. Which is fine if you’re the boss and you need to catch that flight out of town. However it starts to suck when you’re playing against some unscrupulous cops whose idea of strategy is to pick up an AR-15 and just camp the helicopter until you get there, then pick you off for an easy win. They should have a system where the escape vehicle and spawn points are randomized all over the map and no one ever knows for sure where anything is beforehand.
    • Tone down the AR-15- Speaking of the AR, I don’t know if i’m in the minority with this one or not but surely i’m not the only person who got sick of that one guy who could get an assault rifle and pretty much reign over any mode, be it Deathmatch, Turf Wars or Cops ‘n’ Crooks. I’m not saying make it a carebear weapon by any means but by the same token it shouldn’t be the god tier gun that everybody always flocks to, to the exclusion of all others either.
  • Expanded Co-Op missions- Being able to team up with other players in Team Mafiya Work, Hangman’s Noose and Bomb the Base was incredibly fun but unfortunately it was also incredibly short. Hopefully in the next GTA Rockstar will expand the co-op portions of the game, maybe even offering Co-Op players their own mini storyline within the grander GTA framework. Preferably with much more varied missions as well. Team Mafiya Work was fun but with just a few different mission types it got kinda repetitive after awhile.
  • Last but certainly not least, ZOMBIE MODE!- There are already plenty of mods  available online where creative GTA fans have tinkered with the different GTA engines and created a rough approximation of this. Still, none of them have come quite close enough to capturing the true potential of zombies in GTA:

Just think of it– there could be food/water meters that we have to keep up, with both being incredibly hard to come by. The vehicles will have limited fuel as well so you won’t be able to just hop in a car and escape. Weapons should also be scarce so fans will mostly have to resort to melee weapons to defend themselves until they manage to successfully make it to the police department or an underground gun shop.

Lastly there will be no immunity for player characters. If you get bit enough times you’re on a timer until you either find some antibiotics or change into one of the undead. Nothing too hard, maybe the character gets to carry around a few doses and he can always pop a pill then and there to shake away the zombie blues. But none of this soaking up tons and tons of bites without fear stuff either. Getting bit should have serious repercussions, just like in a real zombie flick.

All of this will add up to an experience where players will really face the prospect, just like in a real zombie outbreak of being trapped inside a building surrounded by the undead, near starvation and desperately trying to figure out a way to escape.

But even if Rockstar doesn’t put all this in, all the mods and machinima online point to one thing. Clearly us fans have spoken, in one single, deafening voice and we’re all saying we want… ZOMBIES! So c’mon guys, make it happen already.

These are just a few of my personal suggestions for what modes should be included in the next GTA. What modes or gameplay ideas would you guys like to see? Please leave your ideas in the comments section.

i would like to see assassination gamemode from gta vice city stories/lcs from the psp, because its fun to play manhunt, you have to hide, act like a normal ped, drive like a normal ped, etc. i really liked that gamemode, but i missed that in gta iv

    Sounds good.
    HOWEVER!
I believe that they should add an OFFLINE multiplayer version (Like in San Andreas)
This will be good for people who can’t play online, or just prefer to play a game with their friends and not just some random people around the world.
I hope rockstar consider this , even some of my friends agree with me. and i’m sure many other people would aswell.
Have both offline and online multiplayer please?!?!

Yeah, I couldn’t agree more. I think these companies don’t realize the value of offline co-op. I think that’s a huge reason why Halo took off the way it did. It wasn’t online multiplayer, it was 4-player split screen, sitting at home with 3 (or more) of your buds and playing together. Even the Halo remake is doing away with 4-player split screen. Playing against strangers online is fine, but what most people really want is to be able to sit with their own friends and play together.

Of course with a game like GTA and such a huge open environment, the technical hurdles of having two players in game simultaneously on the same disc at the same time might be pretty high. Say for instance if one player was in Los Santos and another was in Ventura and the game has to dynamically load both players’ activities at once. They’d probably have to have some sort of tether system where the two players can’t go too far away from one another. But I could be wrong, I don’t know how far along the tech has come.

Thanks, It’s good that more people are agreeing with me.
But where you said “Even the Halo remake is doing away with 4-player split screen”.
i’m not sure what you mean by ‘Doing away’, sorry, i’m tired.
Does that mean that they are REMOVING Splitscreen. that would be bad.
And i was thinking about having it more like GTA: SA, where you can’t go too far away from the other player.
If not, make it splitscreen for co-op and just free-roam.
sadly, i don’t think they will put in Offline multiplayer, but it would be EXCELENT if it did. Because in GTA once you have finished the main story, the free-roam gets a little boring, but if it had offline multiplayer, it adds a whole new feel to the game, which will boost Rockstars sales, imo. there are many people who don’t have Online for the consoles, and would prefer offlline MP.

I would like to see a real life of a family man taking care of himself and his family, it doesn’t have to be so accurate like taking the kids to the school everyday, but putting this touch is good. Taking territories and see it with your color on the map was wonderful on San Andreas game, I would like to see it on GTA V. In GTA IV I felt little bored in the middle of the game, driving cars long distances and kill many people, all repeated, I hope new features and options will be available on GTA V. No need to serious adult scenes, Porn is everywhere. I am a big fan of GTA and I hope that my comment help improving this wonderful series. Thanks

i dont know why they cant make systemlink in gta iv, because thq could make it in saints row 2, and now in saints row 3, so, this proves that system link isnt impossible just look at the pc, you can play on LAN..

I really hope they keep Auto-Lock In MP, I think that the option of not using autolock depending on the consesus of who is playing is a good idea. The Targeting in Saints Row the Third is horrible, One thing I liked about niko is he wasn’t a wannabe gangster, he had military training. I remember being in Iraq Once we had access to an XBOX360 and Some games including Saints Row 2, GTA IV and Call of Duty. BY FAR, GTA IV was the favorite, I don’t remember anybody playing Saints row more than one session. Call of Duty was ok, but, it may seem realistic to civilians, but not to Marines. Oh, BTW, that wasn’t an AR in GTA IV it was an M4, The AR is the civilian version of the M16 or M4, the aesthetic difference between an M16 and M4 is that a M4 has an adjustable Stock length and a shorter 16 inch barrel, instead of a 20 inch barrel and fixed stock that the M16 has. You can purchase a new Semi-Auto AR in “M4″ Style or “M16″ style. Yes, there is a difference, they may look identical however the R.O.F. and cycling is very different. In real life, with a M16 or M4 with the holographic sites once you lock in on your target they can’t move fast enough to get out of the site, which makes auto-lock more realistic. Please do not tell me to play Call of Duty, to civilians it may seem fairly accurate but to Marines it’s just way off. I did buy Saints Row 3, I thought they might have improved…but it was really the same BS.

Rockstar should add a penalty to those who quit ranked matches early. It should affect their TrueSkill rank. This would discourage quitting & make the system more accurate. Right now all the quitters are rewarded & it becomes a competition over who is the best at quitting.

SYSTEM-LINK!!! If this game had system-link/LAN option, it would be AMAZING! I love playing online with my friends, but after we hit about 8-10 people, it starts to lag. If we could system-link this game, lag wouldn’t ever be an issue!

    Incorporate system-link!!!

I would like to see more realistic helicopter flight. Like we should have to tow the helicopter out of a hanger or start it up some sort of way. Also more ralistic helicopter sounds as well as flitght.

I see a few good ideas posted up there. But nothing too original. Dose anyone remeber the side missions in s.a. were you could rob houses? Well, what if u could rob those. Plus banks, depo’s, carshops, and weponrey… As a mode, and keep your loot?
